About the N.V.Gogol’s Complete Academic Collection Works and Letters in 23 volumes
Abstract. The article deals with the N.V.Gogol’s Complete Academic Collection Works and Letters in 23 volumes, published by the Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The main textual problems and approaches adopted in the publication arediscussed with specific examples. The need to study the different editions of the works is explained, a brief description of the content and objectives of the academic commentary is given.

Abstract. The article discusses the fundamental transformation of the romanticism tradition in the fiction. Gogol completely removed the carrier of fiction — a personalized embodiment of surreal power in his novel “The Nose”. The continuation of the tradition of Gogol in the works of Kafka is also revealed.

Gogol’s novel “The Diary of a Madman”
Abstract. The article features one of the stories of the “Arabesque” collection. It establishes its connection with the romantic literature and the theme of the “little man”. The state of madness is interpreted as a reflection of the peculiarities of Nikolas I reality. The originality of the construction of the work, the stages of the hero’s madness and the genre form found by the author are considered.

Medieval novel about the artist and Gogol’s novel “Portrait”
Abstract. Medieval culture attracted Gogol’s by its high moral value. In the novel “Portrait” Gogol uses literary motifs and iconographic themes that were developed in the Middle Ages. The story also experienced the influence of the ideas of the Italian Renaissance (Raphael) and romanticism.

N.V.Gogol in school: a comparative-historical aspect
Abstract. The purpose of this article — to consider the main stages of school development of N.V.Gogol works (pre-revolutionary, soviet, modern) and compare the main problems of the study, the criteria for the selection of works, approaches to their analysis. The main sources used by the authors: curricula, programs, textbooks and manuals, as well as scientific literature, memoirs. The article summarizes the experience of studying literary texts of N.V.Gogol at different stages of literary education (single stories, the comedy «Auditor», the poem «Dead Souls»); the main methodological problems associated with the comprehension of the writer’s artistic world are identified; the list of works included in school programs and textbooks is noted; their educational potential is determined.
